As people close to me know, I have a great love for horses, and although I do not have my own horse ,yet, but I have been around them in every way from childhood, to volunteer, to employee at one time in my life. I often like to read articles, such as those from Western Horseman/ There was a quote from a horse trainer whose name I forget, but has stuck with me because of how it applies to our own human lives as well, it was “during training I am looking for the try”, the key word being try.
Today is the first day of 2026, many of us have goals, things we want to accomplish, we want to prove to ourselves that we can endure to the long haul, the whole year. But, we must not beat ourselves up, in pursuit of a perfectly checked off list. That is a recipe for burnout, simply seek out to try on your “off days’, as a try is still a step towards progression.
Today, I donned two weight vests, totalling about 75 lbs and went on a ruck with Cash, about a mile and half or 45 minutes. Rucking is not the most comfortable thing to do, but it strengthens the entire body and helps your natural breathing, as you have to inhale and exhale through the weight pressing on the chest. The health benefits of rucking far outweight the hour of discomfort. But, it requires you to try.
I will have much more to write about, but remember those daily tries are those little wins that lead to real progress towards the goal. As I have heard many say “stacking up many small wins daily leads to big wins”.
I cannot do it alone, which is why I will pray daily for the strength, endurance and wisdom to become a little better everyday. Pray for a continued renewal of the soul.
