Daily writing prompt
What technology would you be better off without, why?

The knee jerk answer for me would be to say my smartphone, to be frank , am wondering if I am blaming the phone instead of looking at myself in the mirror. Perhaps, instead of casting blame, I should have a system of discipline in place to where it is not so much of a hindrance on my time.

I try to be analog in much of my life, as I drive a old truck with no touchscreen, wear a Timex windup and am using an hourglass to keep me on the clock as I write this. I try to be “old school” and am not easily awestruck by what is new in technology. But, I still have the smartphone and it is a hindrance that I have not tamed.

I am old enough to remebr the days without everyone carrying a personal phone and the lack of texting that forced people go visit their folks or actually call them. Now, I am hard of hearing and still remeber using TTY and would call some people through that and have an extended conversation with them, fully knowing a third person was listening in. But, in some ways that seemed better than the broken conversation of a text.

Since, I mentioned being hard of hearing, my phone can be my interpreter in many situations, live captioning, transcripting, volume control on my hearing device. In the absence of meaningful conversations with people during my days, my phone playing a video or podcast in the background is a tremendous training aid. My voice and word recognition improves the more voices I listen tol I cannot discount that.

However, I have a big probem with watching YouTube, and that is a probem that I have to fix. There is so much other things that I want to fill my plate throughout my day.

Remember, it is a tool with specific uses, do not use it beyond your intended us for it. I must learn to better control what time I put into it, as time is irreversible;
