I will always prefer the mountains over the beach., and I have experienced both to have a honest opinion. I have been to mountains in several states and the sense of accomplishment of summiting the top of a mountain (no matter the difficulty) is really unbeatable. You take in the whole view of God’s creation.
Now, I have been to the beach, my first memories were at a beach in Pennsylvania when my parents visited friends over there and can remember my little hands gathering and my mind studying the perfect symmetry of clamshells, although my 4 year old mind did not know what symmetry meant. I was impressed. I also remember getting engulfed by waves of saltwater.
When my brother in law was stationed nar Destin, Florida, I visted several times with my family and went to the clear waters of that famous beach a couple times. and it was quite fun. The thing about being at the beach is your “real estate” is limited, and you are always at risk of enroaching on someone else or vice versa. However, I find myself reading random things about the ocean and would like to someday go sailing, just to know a bit of what our ancestors felt when crossing seas.
Mountains appeal much more to the introvert (which I am) and perhaps the beach appeals more to the extroverted person, especially in the warmer parts of the country. For me, I will rather be somewhere with my dog, close family and friends and watch the sun rise and set from behind a great mountain.
